New Milan manager Sergio Conceicao enjoyed a dream start at his new job as the Rossoneri squeaked past Juventus to reach the Supercoppa Italiana final. The Portuguese manager addressed the media after his side overhauled a narrow halftime deficit to beat the Turin giants 2-1 at the King Saud University Stadium.
Juventus grabbed the lead midway through the first half through Kenan Yildiz. But after an unenviable first-half performance, Milan came flying out of the traps at the start of the second half and eventually turned the game on its head. It took the Rossoneri only five minutes to complete the turnaround.
Back from injury, Christian Pulisic drew Milan level from the spot in the 71st minute. Five minutes later, second-half substitute Yunus Musah saw his attempted cross deflected into the back of the net by Federico Gatti. Though Milan’s performance flattered to deceive, this could prove a season-defining victory for Conceicao’s charges.
Conceicao stated after the game that he’s ‘not here to make friends,‘ as reported by Gianluca Di Marzio. However, he conceded he ‘saw the Milan of a few weeks ago, filled with doubts,‘ admitting his injury-hit team didn’t fare well in the opening 45 minutes.
Milan will undoubtedly have to do much better on Monday if they’re to beat high-flying Inter in the title-deciding fixture. Conceicao is potentially 90 minutes away from winning his first trophy in Italian football, even though he replaced Paulo Fonseca just days ago. But the task is nothing short of Herculean.
