New Barcelona goalkeeper is now aiming to start against Sevilla | OneFootball

FC Barcelona have been focused on preparing for the return to club football after the international break. Now that the return in question is upon them, Hansi Flick’s team looks to be raring to go. From the injured players to the regular starters, everyone at Barcelona wants to prove a point.

The first game up for them will be a visit from Garcia Pimienta’s Sevilla side at the Montjuic Stadium. This particular La Liga clash should provide Barcelona with the right kind of opponent to test themselves against before the two big tests against Bayern Munich and Real Madrid come up right afterwards.

However, while there is a lot of excitement about the fact that the team may potentially recover several previously injured players ahead of this La Liga encounter, there may now be yet another reason to be hopeful despite the demanding set of games that are coming up ahead.

That particular reason would be the possible inclusion of Wojciech Szczesny in the upcoming fixture. According to SPORT, the Polish goalkeeper is even aiming to start against the visiting side in a game that would be his first appearance since officially joining Barcelona.

Originally brought in to provide additional cover following the untimely injury to Marc-Andre Ter Stegen. However, the fact that the Pole came out of retirement suggested that his aspirations would be much higher than simply wanting to play at Barcelona as a bench-warmer.

Now that he feels much more match-fit and ready to feature for the team, the Polish goalkeeper will be hoping for some involvement. Inaki Pena remains his primary hurdle to overcome, and everything will ultimately depend on the consistency of both goalkeepers and how Hansi Flick aims to make use of them.

While there is still a possibility that both players could have their duties divided as per the competitions that Barcelona will be taking part in this season, it still remains to be seen. For now, Szczesny continues to aim for a start against Sevilla in order to kickstart his Barcelona career.
