Olympique de Marseille ended their 2024-2025 Ligue 1 campaign in style with a 4-2 victory over Rennes at the Vélodrome on Saturday, securing second place in the Ligue 1 table and automatic qualification for the UEFA Champions League group stage. Speaking in the mixed zone post-match in the presence of Get French Football News, Neal Maupay (28) strongly suggested he is set to stay at the club beyond the summer. The Frenchman is currently on loan at the club from Premier League side Everton, but there is a growing feeling he’ll be staying at the club past the expiry of his loan.“If everything goes well, I’ll be a Marseillais in the next few days or weeks,” Maupay told reporters. “We’re not here to talk about contracts, you’ll have to talk to the people concerned. Personally I’m very happy here.”The former Brighton and Brentford striker returned to Ligue 1 last summer on a season-long loan, and has had a mixed campaign in terms of output but has been praised internally for his attitude and work rate. While not always a starter, he played a key role in helping stabilise the dressing room through rocky periods of the campaign. “Yes, we’ve done it. Despite all your (the press) criticism, and everything that happened this season – the ups and downs – we’ve been second for most of the year and we finish second. The goal is achieved, and it’s deserved – for the club, the fans, and the players.”GFFN | George Boxall – Reporting from Stade Vélodrome, Marseille
