Liverpool stunned Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes, securing a 1-0 win in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie.

It was not pretty, but the Reds will be more than glad to take a 1-0 lead heading into the second leg at Anfield.

Liverpool were dominated by a PSG team that recorded 27 shots but struggled to beat Alisson Becker between the sticks after a remarkable shot-stopping performance.

Liverpool boss Arne Slot rolled the dice, with talisman Mohamed Salah underdelivering and sent on the underused Harvey Elliott, who nicked the winner with his first touch of the ball.

When the climax of this smash-and-grab win dissipates, the Red will reckon that they were not good enough for a chunk of the game.

Salah had an anonymous outing. Having registered 52 goal contributions for Liverpool this season, he was expected to be the dangerman for the Reds on the night.

However, Salah failed with his two crossing and one long ball attempt. He lost possession 16 times, won 0/8 ground duels and did not complete even one of his four dribbling attempts.

The Liverpool legend was given a bad review and a 4/10 rating for his shambolic display by the Express.

They said: “Not many players have kept Salah quiet this season, but the Egyptian’s influence was limited by the excellent Nuno Mendes down the Liverpool right. After 52 goal contributions this season, he has rarely had a worse game in Liverpool red.”

Salah must bounce back from this showing in the coming games, and Liverpool have many crucial ones looming.

First, they welcome lowly Southampton to Anfield for what many expect to be a cakewalk, but the Reds must be careful, considering the Saints made life difficult in their two meetings this season.

The second-leg fixture with PSG is next before Liverpool take on Newcastle United at Wembley. Salah needs to put this PSG performance behind him, step up his game and start delivering again.
