Liverpool are trying to sell striker Darwin Nunez after three unsuccessful seasons in Merseyside. However, suitors Napoli have not made any progress in their bid to sign him.

According to Gianluca DiMarzio, Napoli will continue to work on the operation to sign the Liverpool centre-forward in the next few days.

Liverpool were getting one of the best young strikers in Europe, who had excelled in Spain and Portugal.

Unfortunately, Nunez has flopped at Liverpool. His best return since the move to Anfield was in the 2023/24 season.

He bagged 11 league goals but incredulously missed 27 big chances.

Nunez managed only five Premier League goals for Liverpool this term. The club is reportedly open to offers for the 25-year-old, and Napoli have stepped up.

The Serie A champions are preparing to lose Victor Osimhen this summer and have their sight set on Nunez as a potential replacement, but he will not come easily.

Despite his shortcomings, Liverpool plan to recoup a healthy sum of their investment in signing Nunez.

Besides Napoli, the former Penarol star has been linked with Atletico Madrid and Saudi Pro League sides, but nothing materialised.

Liverpool have spent big money to secure Bayer Leverkusen duo Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong as they bid to defend their Premier League crown.

Meanwhile, a deal to sign Milos Kerkez from AFC Bournemouth is in the pipeline.

The engine room is also crying out for a natural holding midfielder to allow Ryan Gravenberch to move further forward into his more natural position in the engine room.

It has been surprisingly quiet on this front.

Elsewhere, if Nunez leaves, which is likely, the Reds will be back in the market for a striker to replace him.

There were links to Newcastle United ace Alexander Isak, but the Magpies will demand an outrageous sum for his services.

Another name that has been swirling in the Liverpool rumour mill is Hugo Ekitike. The Eintracht Frankfurt forward has a €100 million price tag.
