Napoli and Manchester United could return to the negotiating table this winter after arranging Scott McTominay’s transfer to Italy in the summer. According to NapoliCalcioLive, Antonio Conte has set his sights on the injury-prone Luke Shaw to replace Mario Rui.
Conte cast Rui away immediately after taking over in the summer. Therefore, Mathias Olivera has been his only out-and-out left-back this season. With Napoli aiming to dethrone Inter in Serie A, the Italian manager grasps the importance of strengthening his squad.
Shaw is no longer part of Man Utd’s plans. New manager Ruben Amorim has ruled him out of his project, handing Napoli a potentially decisive transfer boost. However, the 29-year-old’s recurring injury problems could be a possible downside.
The Englishman isn’t the only Red Devils fringe player linked with a move to Napoli. Marcus Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee have caught Conte’s attention and could move to Stadio Diego Armando Maradona as part of a blockbuster swap deal involving Victor Osimhen.
Osimhen is currently on loan at Galatasaray. But he’s unlikely to stay in Turkey beyond the summer. Meanwhile, Man Utd are contemplating a move for the Nigerian ace and are willing to offer their wantaway stars as counterparts to sweeten the agreement.
In addition to contemplating an audacious bid for Shaw, Napoli haven’t lost hope of signing Juventus castaway Danilo.Thiago Motta has put his out-of-favor captain on the market amid Napoli’s growing interest. Despite his age, the 33-year-old would be a massive short-term coup for Napoli.
