Juventus coach Thiago Motta insists Manchester City ‘forced’ the Bianconeri to play with a low block on Wednesday, but their playing style will change against other opponents and perhaps even against Pep Guardiola’s side in the future.

The Bianconeri secured a memorable 2-0 win over defending Premier League champions Manchester City in the Champions League Round 6 last night.

Football Italia was among the accredited media and followed Motta’s post-match press conference.

Juventus let their opponents dominate possession and hit on counter-attacks, taking all three points thanks to goals from Dusan Vlahovic and Weston McKennie.

Motta answered several questions about Juventus’ playing style and what it means to the team’s development.

“Surely, it’s an enrichment. It was our decision, but they also force you to play this way because this team has been doing this since their coach was appointed,” said the Bianconeri boss.

“They [Man City] play 95-98% of games like this. At the same time, I am satisfied. I’ve always said that playing well means understanding the moments of each game. This was the performance we needed against a team with these skill sets.

“Surely, we’ll face other teams with different characteristics, so we’ll have to play differently. The next game will already be different.”

The Bianconeri will host Venezia at the Allianz Stadium this coming Saturday.

“We can’t always play like this. Sometimes, we’ll need to be more open and take more risks,” Motta continued.

“It’s part of the game. But the most important thing is to hit the opponent and reduce the times when they can hurt you. Starting from the next game, we must dominate proceedings. We can do it. It’s different; we’ll surely take more risks and can do it.

“Today, we had to face Man City like this, but in the future, who knows? We may face them differently. We have the ability to do many things, and when you do that, you are more unpredictable and become a stronger team.”

Juventus have 11 points in six Champions League matches and will play Club Brugge away, and Benfica at home in the last two games of the league phase, which ends in January.
