Monterrey meets Urawa Red Diamonds with eyes on Round of 16

MIAMI – The FIFA Club World Cup 2025 continues as 2021 Concacaf Champions Cup winners CF Monterrey face Urawa Red Diamonds in Group E on Wednesday at Rose Bowl Stadium in Los Angeles, California.
The occasion represents the fifth meeting at a FIFA Club World Cup tournament between sides from Mexico and Japan.
CF Monterrey enters its third and final group stage fixture in search of securing one of the top two spots in Group E to advance to the Round of 16.
Rayados most recently played out a nil-nil draw against Club Atlético River Plate in its past encounter. Goalkeeper Esteban Andrada delivered a standout performance with several key interventions to record a clean sheet. Most notably, Andrada pulled off important saves to deny Franco Mastantuono in the 67’, and Miguel Borja in the 76’ and 84’.
Urawa Red Diamonds will be in search of its first points after losing its first two matches. In its past match, the Japanese side fell 2-1 against Inter Milan. Ryoma Watanabe scored the team’s lone goal.
The Japanese giants are currently in the midst of a fourth appearance at a Club World Cup and qualified to the revamped 2025 edition by winning the 2022 AFC Champions League.
