AS Monaco striker Breel Embolo (28) has eventually agreed to a Deadline Day move to Ligue 1 side Rennes, according to L’Equipe. The Switzerland international’s switch to Les Rouge et Noir was in jeopardy as Embolo seemed to have backtracked on the deal as Monaco and Rennes thrashed out a €15m agreement in principle for Sunday. The outlet reports that Embolo has undergone a medical with Habib Beye’s side, with whom he will put pen to paper over a four-year contract.
Rennes were in the market for a traditional centre-forward after parting ways with Arnaud Kalimuendo. The former France youth international, who logged 17 Ligue 1 goals last season, was poached by Nottingham Forest in exchange for a €35m transfer fee. Rennes previously signed Estéban Lepaul from Ligue 1 rivals Angers SCO in a €16m switch. On their part, Monaco were open to selling Embolo, who had entered the final months of his contract with Les Monégasques.
