Atalanta ruled out the departure of director Tony D’Amico through the words of their CEO Luca Percassi in recent days, but Milan haven’t abandoned their chase yet. They plot to open talks with the Bergamaschi to convince them to release their exec, Calciomercato informs.
The Rossoneri are keeping in touch with Igli Tare, who would be the choice if they weren’t successful. He’s a free agent and doesn’t have other suitors, at least for the time being. They are keeping close tabs on what’s going on with La Dea.
In particular, Milan believe they’ll have a better chance of getting D’Amico if Gian Piero Gasperini stays put. Atalanta would be more reluctant to let go of the official if the coach stepped down, since they’d have to replace two key cogs of their machine.
Instead, if the gaffer opted to play out the final year of their contract, the Orobici might give in if the exec asks out. They might want something in return. The Rossoneri will have to wait one more month to negotiate, facing the risk of coming up empty. Fabio Paratici is likely headed back to Tottenham once his suspension is over.
Landing their top target has become the only way to salvage the situation for the Rossoneri. Nothing wrong with being thorough and taking time to make a pivotal decision, but they could have done it way less loudly and with fewer leaks. The odds are against them, and they have been setting the stage for standing pat with some recent remarks, but it’s not over until he declares he’s staying.
