The January window could have had a coda past deadline day for Milan because Samuel Chukwueze is being tracked by teams where the transfer market is still open, but he won’t leave. Director Geoffrey Moncada confirmed it to Mediaset before the successful Coppa Italia fixture versus Roma.

“He’ll stay with us and will be an extra option on the right wing.”

The exec mused on a busy session.

“It was important for us to do something. We changed a few players, tweaking the profile and structure of the team to give the coach more alternatives. The expectations are high. We want to advance in the Champions League and come back in Serie A.”

Moncada dished on the Santiago Gimenez deal.

“It was challenging. We had known him since his time at Cruz Azul and stayed in touch. We were aware there was a chance to sign him. Then, it’s always tough with Dutch teams, as was the case with Tijjani Reijnders. He did a lot of work and pushed hard to come here with his agent. He’s somebody we were familiar with and wanted.”

Moncada stated that Milan will try to keep Joao Felix permanently even though they didn’t obtain an option to buy.

“It’s up to us, not to him. There’s always a possibility. We have a really nice relationship with Chelsea, so we’ll see in the summer.”

The Milan newcomers got off to a nice start, as Gimenez assisted the Portuguese attacker on the game-sealing goal against the Giallorossi on Tuesday. The Rossoneri will face either Inter or Lazio in the semifinals.
