After Mike Maignan and Tijjani Reijnders, whose renewals only need to be announced, Milan are ready to commit to Christian Pulisic long-term too. The parties are putting the finishing touches on a new contract until 2029, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs.
The USMNT star has been one of their few consistent players in a turbulent season and hasn’t been affected by the coaching and schematic changes. Despite a pair of minor injuries, he has totaled 12 goals and 9 assists in 34 appearances across all competitions.
Milan will reward Pulisic with a pay bump. His salary will grow from €4M to €5M annually. He was already tied to them until 2027. Reijnders will be under contract until 2029, while Maignan until 2028. The club will have an option to tack on another year in those cases. There most likely won’t be a release clause in any instance, not even a sky-high one like Rafael Leao’s €175M one.
In the meantime, Sergio Conceiçao is mulling over doing away with the fab four and deploying all of them only during matches and not from the start. Rafael Leao, Felix, and the American winger would alternate since Gimenez is untouchable given his characteristics. Their no.10 would frequently be the odd man out.
He’s fully deserving, and his wages are still fairly reasonable, which doesn’t hurt. He is and will remain one of their most clever acquisitions in recent years. As for the formation, it won’t be long before it causes some rumblings if a star has to come off the bench more often than not.
