Carney Chukwuemeka reportedly wants to join AC Milan during the January transfer window.
The 21-year-old Chelsea midfielder has struggled for game time this season, making just four appearances across all competitions, and is keen on a move away from Stamford Bridge.
Milan are pushing to negotiate a loan deal, including an option to buy at the end of the season, according to Calciomercato.
Chukwuemeka has been on Milan’s radar for some time, with chief scout Geoffrey Moncada reportedly identifying the England U21 international as a key target last summer.
While discussions between the clubs are ongoing, no agreement has yet been reached.
The Rossoneri are banking on the player’s eagerness for a fresh start to sway negotiations in their favour.
Milan view the proposed loan with an option to buy as a low-risk opportunity to reinforce their midfield, especially given Chukwuemeka’s limited opportunities under Enzo Maresca at Chelsea.
Chukwuemeka, who joined Chelsea from Aston Villa in 2022, has shown glimpses of potential but remains on the fringes of the first-team squad.
His desire to secure regular playing time has reportedly made a move to Milan particularly appealing, as he sees the Serie A side as an ideal environment to reignite his career.
Celtic are also in the race to sign the midfielder and are believed to be monitoring the situation closely.
The Scottish champions have reportedly placed themselves in a strong position to rival Milan for Chukwuemeka’s signature, although Moncada is maintaining close contact with the player’s entourage to keep Milan’s hopes alive.
Despite Chukwuemeka’s openness to a move, Milan are also exploring alternative midfield targets to avoid being left empty-handed if negotiations with Chelsea stall.
However, Milan’s priority remains to secure the 21-year-old on terms favourable to their financial structure.
With the January transfer window fast approaching, the situation is expected to unfold in the coming weeks.
Milan are holding their position for now, hopeful that Chukwuemeka’s desire for a change of scenery and Moncada’s persistence will help them win the race to sign him.
