Theo Hernandez’s career at Milan could be drawing to a close after the French superstar fell out of favor with manager Paulo Fonseca. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the 19-time Italian champions could listen to offers for the 27-year-old in the coming months.
Hernandez has been a stalwart since swapping Real Madrid for Milan in 2019. His incredible performances turned him into one of Europe’s most highly-rated left-backs. Furthermore, he earned the role of vice-captain at San Siro after playing a pivotal role in the club’s 19th Scudetto two years ago.
However, Fonseca’s arrival has turned the Frenchman’s sterling life at Milan upside down. In addition to his noticeable dip in form, Hernandez seems to have lost interest on the pitch, lacking his usual fighting spirit in recent matches. That forced the Portuguese boss to hold a crunch talk with the underperforming star in Friday’s training session.
In the meantime, Milan are preparing for the worst-case scenario. With Hernandez’s contract expiring in 2026, the Rossoneri are running out of time. Therefore, a winter sale is well on the cards. Hernandez’s career path took him away from Real Madrid five years ago. But he may return home if Los Blancos meet Milan’s asking price.
Chances are Milan would sanction Hernandez’s departure for a figure close to €50 million. That’s a pocket change for Florentino Perez. However, the reigning Champions League and La Liga title holders would only pursue a deal for their former player if they failed to snap up Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies.
