Their best opening of the first half came when Santi Giménez fired an angled shot into the far corner of Lorenzo Montipo's net which was immediately flagged offside.

But the Mexico international broke the deadlock in the final quarter of an hour after Rafael Leão teed him up by lifting Álex Jiménez's cross over Montipo.

The Rossoneri are up to seventh after their fifth games unbeaten in Serie A and sit a point behind Fiorentina in the Europa Conference League qualification place.
