Brentford have given permission for Christian Norgaard to undergo a medical at Arsenal after reaching an agreement on a fee for the midfielder.

Norgaard looks set to become Arsenal’s third signing of the summer after the Gunners agreed a fee in the region of £10m with Brentford for the 31-year-old.

It follows agreements to sign Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea and Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi. Each of those deals have been agreed but are yet to be confirmed.

Norgaard has emerged as a transfer target after a failure to agree terms with Thomas Partey on a new contract. Partey’s deal expires next week and Norgaard is viewed as an experienced Premier League proven option to add depth.

The Denmark international has been a key part of Brentford’s consolidation as a Premier League team in recent campaigns. Last season, he scored five goals and provided four assists for the Bees, while impressing on a number of defensive metrics.

No player in the Premier League covered more distance than the Dane last season, while he has ranked among the top eight players in the league for interceptions in three of the last four campaigns.

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that he has been authorised to undergo a medical ahead of completing his transfer to the Emirates.
