Michael Oliver appointed as referee for Manchester City vs Chelsea

Following on from a colossal victory against Real Madrid at the Etihad in midweek, Manchester City return to Premier League action against Chelsea on Sunday with a chance to clinch the title. Michael Oliver will be in charge of the game, which kicks off at 4 pm (BST) on Sunday, 21st May.

Oliver will take charge of his fourth match involving Manchester City this season. Pep Guardiola's men have won the previous three games, the last one being that crucial 4-1 win over Arsenal at the Etihad.

Two of the three City games officiated by Oliver have been at the Etihad, both high-scoring games; the first was that splendid 6-3 Manchester derby win and, as mentioned, the other was the 4-1 win over the Gunners in April.

Overall, City's record in Premier League games officiated by the 38-year-old makes for pretty good reading; the Blues have 32 wins, three draws, and six defeats in 41 games. At the Etihad, under the official, the Premier League champions have 17 wins, three draws, and just two defeats in 22 games.

In the three games Oliver has refereed this season, City players have received just four yellow cards, and no City player has been given their marching orders. Oliver, in fact, has just handed out one red card all season in the Premier League, with that going to Douglas Luiz in Aston Villa's 3-0 loss at Craven Cottage. The North East native has awarded one penalty to City this season and given one penalty against City this season.
