It has been a turbulent summer for the Owls, with owner Dejphon Chansiri having failed to pay all the wages on time for a second consecutive month at the end of July, which has brought sanctions from the EFL.

In the background, takeover talks are taking place, and there is optimism that an agreement will be reached with the Thai businessman.

However, in the short-term, Wednesday are vulnerable to losing their main assets, with Djeidi Gassama expected to complete a move to Rangers.

They explain that a four-year contract has already been agreed with the player, and it’s now expected that Musaba will travel to Istanbul to undergo a medical, and, providing everything goes well, he will sign the contract.

There’s no indication of the fee Wednesday will receive for the Dutchman, who has entered the final year of his contract with the Yorkshire club.

Anthony Musaba will be missed at Sheffield Wednesday

This is obviously far from ideal for Wednesday, as they are in a desperate situation right now in terms of the ownership and the players.

The squad is getting thinner by the day, and there will be very real concerns about what sort of XI they will put out when they face Leicester City on the opening day on August 10.

Of course, the only thing that matters in the bigger picture is Chansiri selling the club, as that will allow them to kick-on, but in the meantime, sales are necessary to help the club operate.

Musaba was an inconsistent player at times, but he was a constant threat with his pace and power, and he did register nine goal contributions (three goals, six assists) last season from 29 games, which is a decent return.

With Gassama also on the way out, the Owls have lost two of their chief threats, and the embargo means that Rohl will have to be creative when it comes to replacing them.

From the perspective of the player, the move to Samsunspor gets him to experience football in a new league, and he is joining a team that came third last season, so they clearly have a lot of talent. Plus, that means Musaba will also get to feature in European football, which is another big pull.
