Scott McTominay warns Napoli ‘can do much better and it’s about pressuring Inter’ in the Scudetto race, while Giovanni Di Lorenzo hails the former Manchester United midfielder.
If the Partenopei are able to keep the pressure on Inter in this title race, it is largely thanks to the Scottish player, who has scored three goals in his last two games.
They were struggling to break down rock bottom Monza this evening, but he rose to meet the cross from substitute Giacomo Raspadori and nodded past Stefano Turati for the 1-0 result.
“Every time I go on the pitch, I want to perform to the best of my capabilities,” McTominay told DAZN.
“All credit to Monza, I thought they were really well organised and made it difficult for us. I know we have to be at a high level for the final five games, but the important thing is the result. We’ll watch back the video and know we can improve a lot from this.”
McTominay had already set a new personal best and keeps improving it, now on nine Serie A goals in 29 games, plus four assists and a goal in the Coppa Italia.
This means Napoli are temporarily joint top of the table, awaiting Inter’s difficult trip to the Stadio Dall’Ara against Bologna on Sunday evening.
“We just have to keep doing our job, keep winning, that’s what you have to do at the business end of the season. We can all do much better, we have a coach who is very demanding who expects that from us every game,” continued McTominay.
“For us, it’s about pressuring Inter Milan and we’ll see where it gets us.”
The Scotland international revealed recently he has been taught a great deal about life in Naples by his personal chef Mario Sorrentino, who is also evidently helping him to keep in great shape.
“Mario is very good, a top chef and a top guy.”

Captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo admits the former Manchester United man has made a huge impact at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona and beyond.
“It certainly helps to have someone like McTominay. The surprise perhaps is the sheer impact he had from the start on Napoli, he is an extraordinary lad and put himself at the disposal of the group,” Di Lorenzo told DAZN.
“We are happy with this victory, we knew it would be difficult, but these are three important points for the Scudetto race.”
It was put to Di Lorenzo that this win against Monza was reminiscent of the victory in Lecce during the march to the Scudetto under Luciano Spalletti.
“There is the risk you can be in a hurry to break the deadlock and make simple mistakes, but the team kept calm and we found the way through. The last five games will be tough, we must all give something more to win.”
Napoli had not won an away fixture in Serie A for three months, since the April 18 victory against Atalanta in Bergamo.
