Today, Herbert Kilpin’s tomb was moved to the Famedio, alongside other greats of Milano, and Mayor Beppe Sala has stated that it reaffirms AC Milan’s affection and appreciation for him.
Ahead of the 125th anniversary celebration, it is only right that Kilpin’s tomb has been moved next to some other greats of the city, after all, he is one of the most important figures in Milanese and Italian football history.
The Englishman founded the Milan Football and Cricket Club a year after moving to Milano in 1898, and the rest, as they say, is history. Sunday, therefore, will be a celebration of his work to bring football to Milan, and the 125 years in between, hopefully commemorated with a victory.
Paolo Scaroni was present alongside the Milan Mayor, Sala, and the latter spoke about the need for Kilpin to be among the greats of the city, and his words have been relayed by Milan News.
“Today, with the burial of Herbert Kilpin’s remains at the Famedio among the city’s greats, Milan reaffirms its affection and pays due honours to one of the founding fathers of Milan and modern Italian football.
“Kilpin’s story and this morning’s ceremony show that Milan is a city that has always known how to welcome and that does not forget those who have contributed to making it a national and international reference point in all spheres, including sport.”
