Manchester United face rival transfer interest from a glut of Premier League clubs in their pursuit of Matheus Cunha, but the Wolverhampton Wanderers forward reportedly favours a move to Old Trafford.

The versatile Brazilian forward has been in fine form for the relegation-battlers this season, racking up an impressive 14 top-flight goals this term. Such form has attracted serious interest from Man Utd, who are thought to be advancing negotiations for the 25-year-old.

Cunha signed a new Wolves contract earlier this season which reportedly included a £62.5m release clause, removing the need for negotiation when it comes to a fee. United's financial restrictions could force them to pay that sum in instalments, but there is also the presence of several rival suitors to consider.

Sky Sports report that United are one of five Premier League clubs interested in the Wolves forward, also naming Arsenal and Aston Villa. The report also suggests that several Saudi Pro League clubs are considering a move to trigger Cunha's relatively affordable release clause.

However, the player's preference is said to be a move to Old Trafford. The Brazilian supposedly "loves United" and is undeterred by a Premier League campaign which has broken all the wrong records.

Despite his recent commitment to Wolves, Cunha has made little secret of his ambitions. "I've made it clear that I need to take the next step," the Olympic gold medallist revealed last month. "I want to fight for titles, for big things. I have potential."

Wolves have already begun preparing for life without their leading scorer. The combative forward has missed six matches through suspension this season after multiple bust-ups on the pitch and was dropped to the bench for Wolves' 4-2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur.

Cunha returned to the starting XI last weekend, which just so happened to be a trip to Manchester United. The club's leading target didn't find the net but did emerge with a 1-0 victory.
