The Brazilian takes on another forward’s squad number as move looms
Newly signed Manchester United forward Matheus Cunha has learned his squad number for the 2025-26 campaign, and it spells disaster for one of his teammates.
The Brazilian was the first senior signing of the summer for United as Ruben Amorim looks to overhaul his squad following a dismal season.
He arrived from Wolves in a deal thought to be worth £62.5million, and his new squad number has now been revealed.
Cunha will don the coveted No10 shirt, joining a long line of legendary players such as Wayne Rooney and Bobby Charlton in doing so.
He directly inherits it, however, from Marcus Rashford, who is being shown to the exit door this summer.
Now his squad number has been reassigned, a move seems more likely than ever.
He joined Aston Villa on loan in January after falling out of favour with Amorim, who had publicly criticised his work rate in training.
While reports emerged today claiming that he planned to report to preseason training on Monday, he does not seem to be in the manager’s plans.
He has been named among a group of five who have been excused from preseason obligations as they look for a new move, alongside Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, Tyrell Malacia, and Anthony.
Standard Sport had previously reported that, should they fail to agree a move in time, Rashford, Sancho, Garnacho, and Antony would not travel to the United States with the rest of the squad, set instead for solo training at Carrington.
