Mateus Fernandes to sign for West Ham after completing medical | OneFootball

Mateus Fernandes is on the verge of signing for West Ham United after completing a medical with the club.

According to journalist Jacob Steinberg of The Guardian, the deal progressed on Wednesday and the Hammers are now to land the Portuguese midfielder.

The London club are expected to pay £38 million for the 21-year-old who has featured three times in the Championship for the Saints so far this season.

Fernandes initially joined Southampton from Sporting CP last summer for around £15 million and featured 42 times in all competitions for the club last season, scoring three times and assisting six.

The deal would become West Ham's sixth first team signing of the summer which Graham Potter will be hoping can help turn his team's poor start to the season around.
