Manchester City and Transport for Greater Manchester’s Matchday Bus Network has been voted Innovative Sustainable Travel Project of the Year by Team Modeshift’s National Sustainable Travel Awards 2024.

This award follows the Club’s introduction of a Matchday Bus Network, which 92% of fans say they are satisfied with, finding it convenient, easy to use, and a great way to socialise with other fans on the way to matches.

Equally importantly, the service has also helped to reduce fan’s emissions, by providing an increasingly sustainable option for travelling to and from the Etihad Stadium.

Commenting on the award, Pete Bradshaw, the Club’s Director of Sustainability said: “With more and more visitors travelling to the Etihad Campus every year, we appreciate the need to evolve our transport offering to reflect the changing demand.

"But the answer isn’t as simple as adding more of everything - it’s about identifying practical solutions which increase efficiency, while at the same time reduce the environmental impact.

"This focus has underpinned the ambition for the Matchday Bus Network, and while it won’t fulfil the complex travel demands for every single visitor, it has provided an innovative and sustainable solution to thousands of matchday attending fans.

"It is therefore of great pleasure that our ambition and hard work is being acknowledged and celebrated by industry professionals with this award.”

The Matchday Bus Network is operated by Transport for Greater Manchester with 15 services running across Greater Manchester and beyond, covering 64 different stops in the process.

Priced at £6 for an adult return ticket from Zone 1, or £8 for zone 2, the Matchday Bus Network offers 50% discounts for fans under the age of 16. Single tickets cost £3 or £4 depending on the zone.

Buses run at every Men’s First Team match at the Etihad Stadium, including all Premier League, Champions League, and domestic cup competitions throughout the 24/25 season.
