On Saturday afternoon, Bayern Munich welcomed Heidenheim to the Allianz Arena, for matchday 13 of the 24/25 Bundesliga season, as Die Roten nearly threw away two points late on.
For the task at hand, Vincent Kompany opted for a 433 formation and fielded an XI of; Peretz - Boey, Upamecano, Kim, Davies - Kimmich, Pavlović, Guerreiro; Olise, Müller, Sané.
Having had a couple of half-chances beforehand, Bayern had their first big chance a quarter of an hour into the game. A brilliant through ball from Olise found Sané in behind, but the 28-year-old could only lift the ball wide of the target.
Just two minutes later, Bayern had the lead. After a Guerreiro shot was blocked and went behind for a corner, Kimmich's delivery found Upamecano, completely unmarked. The Frenchman towered home a header into the bottom corner. Shoutout to Olise, whose superb work led to the Guerreiro chance.
With around six minutes of the first-half remaining, Davies hit the post from a tight angle inside the box, having been well found by Guerreiro. That would be that for the first-half, and Bayern would go into the break a goal to the good.
Five minutes into the second-half, Heidenheim had an equalizer, with their first shot of the game. An awful backpass from Upamecano was latched onto and tucked away by Mathias Honsak. From hero to zero. Kompany immediately replaced Müller with Musiala.
Just minutes later, Bayern's golden boy found the back of the net. After a deft pass from Olise opened the middle of the pitch up, Musiala drove forward, before drilling a shot low into the bottom corner despite the keeper getting a touch to it.
Very shortly after the hour mark, a ball over the top found Olise, who was now playing up front, but his right footed lob was well saved. In the aftermath, Bayern loanee Paul Wanner was replaced.
With little under 20 minutes remaining, Goretzka and Coman came on for Pavlović and Olise, as Kompany looked to manage the midfielder's minutes on his return from injury.
Two minutes later, a Musiala shot was well saved, with the rebound falling to Sané. The forward inexplicably could not find the back of the net, after trying to be too cute with his finish. Just about summed up his afternoon.
With less than ten minutes left, Goretzka made it 3-1 with a deflected strike from the edge of the box. However, just a minute later, Heidenheim made it 3-2 from a cut-back as Niklas Dorsch got on the scoresheet.
Then, in stoppage time, Bayern quickly sprung a counter-atttack, with Guerreiro playing Musiala through on goal. The midfielder could not have been offside, having started the run in his own half, and kept his composure to slot into the far corner to finally make sure of the points.
After the goal, for the final seconds of the game, Ibrahimovic replaced Coman (who seemed to have picked up an injury) and Laimer replaced Guerreiro. That would be that, and Bayern now have a six point lead at the top of the Bundesliga after Eintracht Frankfurt dropped points. Enjoy your weekend, Bayern fans.
