Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount has opened up on what he was feeling when he scored a brilliant brace in his side’s 4-1 victory over Athletic Club a couple of weeks ago.

The United man has suffered terrible luck since making his big money move from Chelsea in 2023.

He has missed 112 days this season alone due to injuries but he has recently got back into the first team.

The Englishman came on in the second half of the Europa League semi-final and scored two fantastic goals to consolidate his side’s passage into the final.

Mount started in the last game back at his old stomping ground of Stamford Bridge against Chelsea. He has also put himself right into contention for a place in the first eleven in the Europa League final tomorrow evening versus Tottenham Hotspur.

Speaking to Owen Hargreaves on TNT Sports he was asked about what it felt like to score his first goals at Old Trafford and especially in such a huge tie.

Reflecting on his performance he stated, “obviously it was a special, special night. Even when I think back on it now, I wasn’t doing much thinking in the game, it just happened.”

Hargreaves mentioned that he believes that many players play their best football when they aren’t over-thinking and Mount agreed by stating, “one hundred percent. It is hard to get into that feeling though.”

Elaborating further on his feelings of the match he stated, “in that moment, I was just in a flow state for 30 minutes and I enjoyed every minute of it. Yeah, it was a special night.”

The Englishman has only managed 24 games this season but will hope to build on this next term.

He clearly enjoys the support of his manager, Ruben Amorim, who has frequently waxed lyrical over the player’s abilities.

With United’s switch to a 3-4-3 formation, there is certainly a clearer spot in the team for a player in the mould of Mount. He will hope that he can finally banish his injury curse next year to cement his spot in Amorim’s first eleven.
