FC Nantes owner Waldemar Kita was bullish when asked by L’Équipe if the club’s finances necessitated big sales over the summer. He responded by talking about Olympique de Marseille’s interest in France youth international Matthis Abline (22).
Kita told the publication, “It all depends on how it goes. If Marseille think they’ll take Abline for nothing, they’re wrong.” He then added that he wasn’t pleased with how Marseille have gone about their previous dealings with Nantes, “They should stop putting pressure on players every time. They did it with Valentin Rongier [sold to Marseille in 2019] and Quentin Merlin [sold to Marseille in 2024].”
Kita concluded by providing Marseille with an asking price that more than doubles previous estimates on the player’s worth, “Abline won’t go unless they pay a fortune, €50 million. They don’t have that much money. But I’d like him to say. I pushed to get him because I saw great potential.”
Marseille are not the only team interested in the young Frenchman; there have been reports revealing that Premier League clubs are also in the market for the striker, with Brentford, Sunderland, and Burnley all thought to be considering his talents.
Abline scored 11 goals during the past season to help Nantes remain once more in Ligue 1. Les Canaris finished the campaign in 13th, three points above Stade de Reims in the relegation playoff spot.
