Inter president Giuseppe Marotta explained the club’s strategy for the summer window before the Nerazzurri blitzed Bayern Munich away in the first leg of the Champions League’s quarter-finals. He spoke to Sky.
“Luis Henrique is a good player, and we have many of those on our radar. Director Piero Ausilio and Dario Baccin are active along with our scouts. We’ll make the necessary adjustments in due time. It’s early to draw conclusions now.”
Marotta was quizzed about whether Inter could be interested in Kevin De Bruyne, Mohamed Salah, and Thomas Muller, who will be out of contract in June.
“You need precise characteristics to build a winning team: young players, veterans, and an Italian backbone you must safeguard. You have to contain the costs, too. We’re searching for different profiles. We wish to make the squad younger to lower the payroll, but we don’t turn up our noses at the chance of signing experienced footballers. Our philosophy is to create assets. In the summer, we wish to invest in talents with great upside.”
While Marotta didn’t outright rule out any name, it’s unlikely Inter will go after aging stars for economic reasons, Calciomercato informs. For instance, De Bruyne has been making €24M per year after his last renewal in 2021, which is almost triple what the Nerazzurri’s highest-paid player, Lautaro Martinez, earns.
The Belgian star, who has already announced his departure on a Bosman transfer, is likely to end up either in Saudi Arabia or in the MLS. He could join established franchises like Cristiano Al-Nassr or Al-Ittihad, or Neom SC, which will soon be promoted. Instead, Inter Miami, New York FC, and San Diego FC are the American options.
