Eintracht Frankfurt look set to make a huge profit on Omar Marmoush as clubs across Europe circle for the in-form forward.
Marmoush has scored 13 goals and created seven more in the Bundesliga this season, form that has piqued the interest of Europe’s elite. Manchester City have made an approach to sign the Egyptian this month – though it’s unlikely Marmoush will come cheap.
Frankfurt are understood to have placed a whopping €80m price tag on the player, who arrived from Wolfsburg on a free transfer just 18 months ago.
The German side have previous when it comes to signing and selling strikers for big money and we’ve remembered some of their previous profitable deals.
Eintracht Frankfurt snapped up Andre Silva on an initial loan deal from AC Milan in 2019, before agreeing on a permanent transfer a year later. Silva had struggled following his high-profile move to Milan from Porto and was allowed to leave for a cut-price fee. He headed to Frankfurt in a swap deal that saw Ante Rebic move in the opposite direction, valued at just €3m in the exchange.
After a productive season on loan, he exploded after signing a permanent deal. Silva scored 28 goals in 32 league appearances, eclipsing Bernd Hölzenbein’s 44-year-old club record for goals in a top-flight campaign. At the end of the season, Leipzig handed Frankfurt a €20m profit to sign the club’s leading scorer.
Luka Jovic signed for Frankfurt on a two-season loan deal in 2017. After a season to settle in Germany, he produced a prolific campaign for the club in 2018/19. Jovic scored 27 goals in all competitions, a return that included becoming the youngest player to score five goals in a Bundesliga game.
Frankfurt had inserted a permanent option in the loan deal and signed Jovic for a fee of €22m, before making an instant profit as Real Madrid came calling. The Spanish giants splashed €60m on the Serbian striker but he struggled to make an impression at the Bernabeu.
Now 27, he is currently on the fringe at AC Milan, having netted just 29 goals in the six-and-a-half seasons since leaving Frankfurt.
West Ham United broke their transfer record by signing Sebastien Haller from Eintracht Frankfurt in 2019. The Irons splashed €50m on the forward, who had scored 33 goals in 77 games across two seasons in Germany.
Haller had signed for Frankfurt from Dutch outfit Utrecht, where he boasted a prolific record in the Eredivisie. His move to the Premier League failed to work out as hoped despite flashes of quality, before a career renaissance at Ajax. After leaving West Ham for Amsterdam, he struck 47 goals in 66 games across an 18-month spell.
Eintracht Frankfurt recouped their record sale when selling Randal Kolo Muani to Paris Saint-Germain in 2023.
The French forward arrived from Nantes as a free agent the previous summer, before bursting onto the scene in the Bundesliga.
Kolo Muani scored 23 goals in all competitions to earn the Bundsliga’s Newcomer of the Season award. PSG, intent to bring him back to French football, splashed out a huge €95m on his services. That’s some profit.
