FC Barcelona’s inability to get rid of Eric Garcia and Ansu Fati has seemingly killed their chances of landing Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford.

The United attacker has not played for the club since mid-December and he has been linked to numerous European giants such as Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund and Juventus.

It has been stated that Rashford’s preference has always been the Spanish club and he has reportedly agreed personal terms on a loan move to the Catalan capital.

Due to strict financial rules however, Barcelona have been unable to act on their interest in the winger as they need to sell to free up space in their squad to give the greenlight to such a deal.

It was originally thought that Ronald Araujo’s sale to Juventus could fund the deal but the Uruguayan has now renewed his contract with the club.

Spanish journalist Guillem Balague has claimed that it is highly unlikely that Barcelona will be able to make space in their squad to complete a deal for Rashford before the end of the January window.

Speaking on his YouTube channel he asserted, “there were two other players, Eric Garcia and Ansu Fati that had been invited to go away if they wanted to.”

“Eric Garcia liked the idea of going to Girona but as of today, Girona have told Barcelona, ‘sorry, we cannot match the sort of finances that you want’.”

This is due to the fact that Girona could not pay his wages and a loan fee.

Therefore, “Eric Garcia is going to stay, that is where we are at the moment.”

Ansu Fati has been left out of the last three squads and is “clearly” not in Barcelona coach Hansi Flick’s plans but even “Ansu Fati going wouldn’t be enough for Marcus Rashford”.

Due to the forward’s lack of interest in leaving La Blaugrana, “it doesn’t look like Marcus Rashford is going to come to Barcelona as we stand.”

“I’m not sure that there are going to be any more twists in this story as those players do not want to leave Barcelona, there is no gap for Marcus Rashford.”

Therefore, with just over a week left of the window, Rashford’s potential exit options seem to be dwindling by the day.
