Manchester United’s attacking players delivered in the 7-0 win over Barnsley on Tuesday night.
The win sends United into the Carabao Cup fourth round as Erik ten Hag looks to go on another cup run, which will hopefully end with the Reds lifting another trophy.
Speaking to reporters after the match, Marcus Rashford hailed our attacking players for finding space and their decision-making against League One opposition.
It was Rashford’s 200th appearance for the club and it marked it with two goals and an assist.
The United and England forward was joined on the scoresheet by Alejandro Garnacho and Christian Eriksen, both of whom also scored braces, as well as Antony, who stepped up to the penalty spot in the first-half.
Rashford spearheaded the attack and caused multiple problems for Barnsley. He was oozing with confidence after getting back on the scoresheet against Southampton over the weekend.
“It’s important to have those relationships on the pitch but I think as a front united, linking with the midfield, I felt we did very well today,” Rashford told Sky Sports, as quoted by ManUtd.com, when asked about his understanding with Garnacho, who also registered two assists on the night.
“Before the first goal, it was a little difficult but after the first one, we found better spaces and we probably made better decisions in order to score.”
With 16 goals in 24 League Cup matches, Rashford moved joint-second in the club’s all-time rankings for goals scored in the competition.
Last night he equalled Mark Hughes’ tally.
However, Hughes scored 16 goals while playing 14 more matches than Rashford needed.
The tally is only bettered by Brian McClair, who scored 19 goals in 45 League Cup matches for United.
