The upcoming January transfer window will give Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim his first chance to shape the squad in his image. But the most significant changes under the Portuguese tactician are expected next summer, with reports suggesting Amorim has his sights set on a key addition from Paris Saint-Germain.
Last summer, United snapped up Manuel Ugarte from PSG, and the midfielder has thrived under Amorim’s leadership. Now, the United boss is reportedly considering another familiar face from his Sporting Lisbon days—a potential reunion with Nuno Mendes.
According to CaughtOffside, United are keeping close tabs on Mendes, with the 21-year-old left-back reportedly open to the idea of joining after discussions with his representatives.
If Mendes doesn’t secure a new deal in Paris, PSG could be willing to listen to offers of around €70 million in the summer, making this a saga to watch in the months ahead.

TBR Football reports that Mendes, who made 47 appearances under Amorim at Sporting, has turned down PSG’s offer to extend his contract beyond 2026. The decision has reportedly drawn interest from several clubs, including Manchester United.
The report highlights that Manchester United have recently conducted thorough evaluations of Patrick Dorgu and Maxi Araujo, two players they hold in high regard.
However, United have been well-acquainted with Mendes’ abilities for quite some time. They view him as a reliable fit under Amorim’s system, given his experience playing as a wing-back at Sporting.
The information also notes that United’s pursuit of Mendes is a relatively new development, sparked by his unexpected decision to turn down a contract extension with PSG, catching the attention of several top clubs.
