Manchester United academy sensation Harry Amass is reportedly set to be handed more first-team opportunities.
Amass was one of United’s most exciting prospects during the pre-season tour to the United States ahead of the current campaign. His potential and injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia led many to believe that the youngster would feature heavily under Erik ten Hag.
However, the now-former United manager overlooked Amass, who had to wait until United’s clash against Leicester City on Sunday for his senior debut.
The England U18 international became the Red Devils’ 253rd academy graduate after featuring in the second half in his side’s 3-0 win over the Foxes.
The starlet looked lively and his cameo may have helped him change the opinion of key figures at the club.
According to GIVEMESPORT, influential figures behind the scenes were “initially insistent” that Amass was not ready for Premier League football.
It is now being claimed that Amass “could force” Amorim into an “unexpected U-turn” and be handed more opportunities at Old Trafford.
Amass’s close control and his ability to carry the ball higher up the field could make him an interesting option for the left-sided wing-back role in Amorim’s 3-4-3 formation. The likes of Diogo Dalot have struggled to show the creative intent and positional awareness needed to shine in that position.
However, United’s left wing-back options should look much better next season should Luke Shaw return to full fitness. Diego Leon is also set to join the Mancunians from Cerro Porteno.
In that regard, Amass could benefit from a move away from United. The report suggests that the Premier League giants will be “presented with proposals” to take him on loan this summer. A number of clubs in the Premier League, Championship, and abroad are interested in the talent.
Despite all this, Amorim is “refusing to rule out” the possibility of handing Amass opportunities to make his breakthrough at the Theatre of Dreams.
The Portuguese head coach has already underlined he is ready to trust young stars by featuring Ayden Heaven in several games in recent weeks.
