Manchester United’s intent to rebuild under Ruben Amorim continues to gather pace, with a second bid lodged for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo. The new offer, worth around £60 million, brings them closer to Brentford’s valuation after their initial £45 million plus £10 million bid was rebuffed.
Brentford are holding firm, according to The Standard. The Bees, under fresh direction following Thomas Frank’s departure, retain an option to extend Mbeumo’s contract by a year beyond 2026, allowing them to negotiate from a position of strength. United’s updated proposal of £55 million up front with an additional £5 million in achievable add-ons aligns more closely with the £62.5 million they recently paid for Matheus Cunha.
Mbeumo, 25, is not short of suitors. The Cameroonian international delivered a standout campaign, notching 20 Premier League goals and supplying eight assists. His potent link-up with Yoane Wissa produced 39 league goals between them, making Brentford one of the more threatening attacks outside the traditional top six.

Yet it is United who remain firmly in pole position. “Mbeumo has long been linked with a move to United, with the Cameroonian favouring Ruben Amorim’s side over a reunion with Thomas Frank at Tottenham,” notes The Standard.
Despite United’s lowly 15th-place finish, Amorim is eyeing reinforcements out wide amid uncertainty surrounding Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, and Marcus Rashford. “The 25-year-old is keen to join United despite them finishing a lowly 15th last season,” the report continues.
Should this transfer materialise, it would surpass the £40 million received for Ivan Toney from Al-Ahli, becoming Brentford’s biggest-ever sale. While the club have insisted on a fee closer to their valuation, they are also “prepared to entertain a bidding war for their star forward.”
It’s not just Mbeumo drawing interest. Captain Christian Norgaard is attracting glances from both Arsenal and Tottenham. Although he signed a new two-year deal in March, the lure of Spurs and a reunion with Frank, his former youth coach in Denmark, may sway him. Arsenal could also firm up interest should talks with Thomas Partey break down.
“Norgaard signed a new two-year contract at Brentford in March but could be tempted to join Spurs and Frank,” reads the report. Meanwhile, Brentford, now manager-less and bracing for bids, may be facing a summer of dramatic transition.
This feels like a rare moment of clarity and ambition from Manchester United. Bryan Mbeumo isn’t just a decent winger, he’s proven Premier League quality. Twenty goals and eight assists in a Brentford side battling for mid-table is serious output. He’s got pace, directness, and an eye for goal — something United sorely lacked last season with Antony inconsistent, Rashford off-form, and Garnacho still raw.
What’s especially encouraging is Mbeumo’s desire to join the club. “The 25-year-old is keen to join United despite them finishing a lowly 15th last season.” That’s not just about money, that’s belief in the Amorim project.
Fans should be buzzing about this kind of intent. Mbeumo feels like a player ready to step into a bigger stage, not just survive it. If Amorim can use him in a wide-right role cutting in — or even centrally when needed — United might just start to look like a functional attacking side again.
Of course, £60 million is steep, but not outrageous in today’s market. Brentford know what they’re doing. If United get this done quickly, it’s a statement of purpose.
