Marcus Rashford might have left Manchester United on loan in January, but his long-term future remains up in the air. The English forward joined Aston Villa after falling out with manager Ruben Amorim, and while he's enjoyed a decent run of form at Villa Park, a permanent move isn’t a certainty yet.
Villa do have the option to make the switch official this summer, but it’s not a done deal. The transfer fee reportedly stands at £40 million, and that might prove to be a stumbling block unless Rashford ends the season in spectacular fashion.
However, if a permanent transfer does not materialise, the 26-year-old could be back in a United shirt before long.
As reported by the Daily Star, Rashford is expected to meet with Ruben Amorim at the end of the season if he returns to Old Trafford. The goal of the meeting will be to clear the air between the two and see whether there is a way forward at the club.
Amorim publicly criticised Rashford’s attitude and performances in training last year, which reportedly played a big part in the player’s decision to seek a temporary move away. But despite their strained relationship, there is still a scenario where Rashford stays.
Rashford is a boyhood United fan, and if he returns, he’s expected to be included in the club’s pre-season tour of the United States. That would offer him a fresh chance to impress the manager and potentially revive his career at the Theatre of Dreams.
Of course, United would ideally prefer to cash in on the England international, especially with the need to raise funds for their summer rebuild. But if no club meets their asking price before the end of July, Rashford staying could become a very real possibility.
What happens next will likely depend on how those talks go. If Rashford can show Amorim he’s willing to buy into the Portuguese boss’ vision, he could yet write another chapter at Old Trafford.
