Red Devils trial new system in Premier League draw
Manchester United drew 1-1 away to Ipswich Town in their first match under Ruben Amorim.
United took the lead after just 81 seconds when Amad Diallo ran down the right flank and squared for Marcus Rashford to score.
But Ipswich levelled before the break through a stunning Omari Hutchinson strike into the top corner via a minor deflection, and held on to claim a point at Portman Road.
Dom Smith was on hand to rate the Manchester United players’ performances…
Saved United in the first half with a good save down low to his right from Sammie Szmodics’s shot, before then denying Liam Delap with a strong right hand from point-blank range. Blocked Delap’s close-range flick after the break.
Jonny Evans 6
In the blows in the first half but recovered from the clash of heads to perform well on the left of defence.
Matthijs de Ligt 6
Played in the centre of the back-three. Quiet display from the Dutchman.
Noussair Mazraoui 5
Not his best performance. Played forward players into trouble with a couple of under-hit passes, and didn’t get enough on his defensive header which allowed Hutchinson’s effort to fly in.
Diogo Dalot 5
His game has endured a notable decline this season. Whether that is just a blip remains to be seen, but the Portuguese offered very little going forward. Defended OK.
Christian Eriksen 6
Often came deep to offer himself as a passing option to Amorim’s back-three. Assured in possession but struggled a bit with a requisite physicality and vitality of being part of a two-man midfield.
Casemiro 6
Had a lot of ground to cover. Played one super pass to his left which found Dalot. Subbed before the hour mark.
Amad Diallo 8
Really good from the Ivorian. Did his defensive duties brilliantly and assisted Rashford with a stunning run and cross.

Bruno Fernandes 6
Tried plenty of line-breaking passes. Lively performance. Involved in the opening goal. So close to a goal of his own with a late free-kick.
Alejandro Garnacho 7
Constantly moving to try to find an angle. Should have played Rashford in sooner as the pair broke away.
Marcus Rashford 7
One or two nice passes and on hand to score the opening goal after just a minute and 21 seconds.
Subs:
Manuel Ugarte (Casemiro, 56’) 5
After Fernandes won the ball, the Uruguayan had a simple pass to play him through but mis-hit it.
Luke Shaw (Evans, 56’) 6
Quietly confident cameo in his first club appearance since February.
Rasmus Hojlund (Rashford, 68’) 5
Didn’t see much of the ball.
Joshua Zirkzee (Eriksen, 68’) 6
One nice flick to play in Diallo.
Mason Mount (Garnacho, 86’) N/A
