Barcelona are hurtling forward in their pursuit of Nico Williams, with the Athletic Club winger’s signing expected to be completed in time for pre-season.
The 22-year-old speedster has already agreed a six-year contract with the Blaugrana until 2031. The next step is for the club to activate his €62 million release clause following which the signing can be completed.
It must be remembered that before moving for Nico, Barcelona were eyeing Luis Diaz and Marcus Rashford as their preferred targets for the left flank.
Given Barça’s Financial Fair Play situation, it remains to be seen how much room they have for more additions beyond Joan Garcia and Nico.
But, according to Catalunya Radio, Marcus Rashford still remains an option for the La Liga champions, irrespective of the Nico deal as they consider him as a market opportunity.
The Manchester United outcast, for his part, is desperate to join Barcelona. As per the update, the forward’s camp has confirmed that there have been fresh discussions between them and the club.

Following that, Rashford is understood to be willing to wait for Barcelona despite the club’s pursuit of Nico Williams.
As has already been reported, the 27-year-old is desperate to sign for the Blaugrana having seen a move to the club fall through in January.
The England international has no future at Manchester United and the possibility of signing him on loan to bolster the attacking unit is seen favourably by the Catalans.
A versatile operator, Rashford can play on the left or as a No. 9 and would not represent a major risk as long as he arrives on loan.
As such, Barcelona could return for him once the Nico deal is completed and the player is prepared to be patient and wait.
