Manchester United star Jadon Sancho is reportedly one of a number of high-profile stars who have been approached by Al-Hilal over a potential move.
United believed they had offloaded Sancho for good last summer when they agreed to send him on loan to Chelsea. The deal featured an obligation to buy for £25million at the end of the 2024/25 season.
However, during the course of the campaign, it emerged that Chelsea could opt out of the obligation by paying United a £5m penalty fee.
Despite helping the Blues to a top-four finish and even scoring in their Europa Conference League final triumph over Real Betis, Chelsea decided not to make Sancho’s signing a permanent one and they sent him back to United.
Chelsea are understood to have explored the option of keeping the England international permanently, but talks broke down after he refused to lower his wage demands, preventing any agreement from being reached.
The London club are now eyeing other talents including Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, Hugo Ekitike and Nico Williams. Alejandro Garnacho is also on their radar.
Sancho is not believed to have a future at United and he will almost certainly be playing his football elsewhere next season. He has been linked to teams such as West Ham, Fenerbahce, Galatasaray and Aston Villa.
A report covered by The Peoples Person revealed that Al-Nassr, Al-Ittihad, and Al-Hilal are all interested in signing Sancho. However, a fresh update suggests that Al-Hilal have now emerged as the frontrunners in the race for the forward’s signature.
According to Foot Mercato, Sancho is among several European-based players who have been approached by Al-Hilal.
Al-Hilal are desperate to secure a marquee signing ahead of the upcoming Club World Cup. Having been snubbed by both Bruno Fernandes and, more recently, Victor Osimhen, the club is now scrambling to lock in alternative high-profile targets.
Foot Mercato state, “Al-Hilal, the Saudi Pro League giants, now accustomed to big moves in the transfer market, has activated several high-profile offensive players to strengthen its attacking lineup this summer.”
“Following the names mentioned in recent days in the international press, the Saudi club has targeted several high-profile players.”
“Victor Osimhen (Napoli), Darwin Núñez (Liverpool), Luis Díaz (Liverpool), Jadon Sancho (Manchester United), and Heung-min Son (Tottenham) are among the players approached by Al-Hilal management.”
Al-Hilal are hoping to capitalise on the appointment of Simone Inzaghi as their new head coach to lure a top-tier player to the club. Whether they decide to push forward with their pursuit of Sancho remains to be seen.
