Manchester United have reportedly contacted Sevilla to request more information about promising defender Juanlu Sanchez.

The 21-year-old played a key role in Spain’s Olympic team over the summer, as they won gold in Paris after an 5-3 extra-time win over France in the final.

Sanchez has featured in all four of Sevilla’s league games this season, scoring a goal in their opening 2-2 draw away to Las Palmas.

He operates at right-back but has the versatility to play further forward down the right flank or in central midfield. He already sounds like a player who could learn a lot from training with Diogo Dalot, who we have watched transform his game in recent years.

Sevilla boss Garcia Pimienta praised the youngster recently, saying (via The Mirror): “He has played as an inside midfielder [before], we were short on space in the midfield due to Saul [Niguez]’s suspension and [Albert Sambi] Lokonga’s injury.

“I spoke to him, I knew he could do well in that position. Juanlu has an incredible present and a better future.”

According to ABC Sevilla (cited by The Mirror), United followed Sanchez’s performances throughout the Olympics and were left prompting one Old Trafford chief to contact Sevilla sporting director Victor Orta.

While no formal offer was made, it is understood that United’s interest is concrete.

We fully expect United to keep tabs on Sanchez throughout the season.

The only problem Sevilla could face with Sanchez is his contract expires in 2026. This means they may be forced to listen to offers, unless they are able to agree fresh terms before he enters the final 12 months of his deal next summer.
