Sacha Tavolieri is reporting that Manchester United have not given up hope of signing OGC Nice centre-back Jean-Clair Todibo (24), despite the legal difficulties surrounding the deal.

INEOS, who bought Nice back in 2019, also purchased a considerable share in Premier League side Manchester United last season. The two clubs, as well as Laussane in Switzerland, are now part of a multi-club model. With Nice and Manchester United both competing in the UEFA Europa League next season, UEFA’s regulations on multi-club ownership come into effect.

One rule prevents sales between the two clubs this summer, a rule that has scuppered Todibo’s move to Old Trafford. Speaking to Bloomberg, Sir Jim Ratcliffe voiced his frustration at the situation. “They’ve (UEFA) said that we can sell him to another [Premier League] club, but we can’t sell to Manchester United but that’s not fair on the player and I don’t see what that achieves,” said the INEOS owner.

However, Tavolieri is reporting that Manchester United have not given up hope of signing the France international. INEOS are set to contest the rule and have hired a Swiss lawyer, Gianpaolo Monteneri, to plead their case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Manchester United are determined to land Todibo but whether they will succeed in doing so remains to be seen.
