Manchester United superstar Bruno Fernandes is attracting strong interest from the Saudi Pro League, as per reports.
A dreadful start to the season saw the sacking of Erik ten Hag in October and the arrival of Ruben Amorim from Sporting CP.
Despite the managerial change at Old Trafford, two things remain consistent: United’s abysmal form in the Premier League, and Fernandes delivering on a regular basis.
United currently find themselves languishing in the 15th place in the Premier League but the Portuguese maestro is enjoying an impressive season. In fact, no player in England’s top flight has created more chances than the 30-year-old, who also boasts eight goals and 10 assists in the league so far this term.
Fernandes is also spearheading United’s Europa League charge, having been directly involved in 11 goals in the competition. However, his phenomenal form has sparked interest from Saudi Arabia.
According to journalist Abdullah Al-Hanyan (via Utd District), Al Hilal are keen on signing the United captain.
Ever since Neymar’s departure, the Saudi Pro League has been exploring the market for a new marquee name to lead their project.
It is claimed they want to sign Fernandes before the Club World Cup, which is scheduled to start on June 14.
Further, it is understood that the Portugal international’s “lawyer and agent met with the management” of Al Hilal on Monday.
This is a major claim, especially since United are set to face Athletic Club in the second leg of the Europa League semi-finals this week.
Considering the importance of the tie and the commitment the player has consistently shown to United during his time in Manchester, it is difficult to see Fernandes and his representatives holding transfer talks at this stage of the campaign. As such, it is best to take the claim with a pinch of salt.
Further, Fernandes is inarguably United’s most important player so it is not far-fetched to assume Ineos would not entertain any talks of exit. He is tied to the club until the summer of 2027.
