Manchester City take on Sparta Prague in the Champions League on Wednesday as the champions of England and the Czech Republic meet in Europe.

The Citizens head into the clash unbeaten across all competitions so far this season and have taken four points from their two European fixtures. After being held to a goalless draw by Inter Milan on matchday one, Pep Guardiola’s side thrashed Slovan Bratislava 4-0 last time out to get their Champions League campaign up and running.

City are targeting two Champions League records this evening. If Guardiola’s side avoid defeat, the club will break the record for the longest-ever unbeaten run in the Champions League (26 matches). It will also be a 32nd home game without defeat in the competition, eclipsing Real Madrid’s record set in 1990.

Their opponents have been one of the surprise packages of the competition so far. In the group stage for the first time since 2005/06, Sparta have also taken four points from their first two games.

The Czech champions thrashed Red Bull Salzburg 3-0 in their opener, before battling to a draw at Stuttgart on matchday two. The goals have been shared around Lars Friss’ team this season with five players tied as top scorer on three goals after 11 games in the Czech First League.

This will be the first ever competitive meeting between the two teams.

Pep Guardiola rotated his side last time out in the Champions League with Matheus Nunes and Stefan Ortega handed starts against Slovan Bratislava. That duo will again be hoping for minutes, while James McAtee is pushing for inclusion after scoring off the bench in the win over the Slovakian side.

The Citizens remain without Rodri (ACL) and Oscar Bobb (fractured leg) who are long-term absentees, while a cautious approach will be taken over the returns of Kevin De Bruyne and Kyle Walker from their current issues. Nathan Ake was an unused substitute at the weekend and could make just his second appearance of the season at the Etihad.
