Pep Guardiola and his Manchester City players move onto the second-leg of their pre-season tour of the United States this week as they take on New York City.

Following a wide range of media duties and promotional activations in iconic locations throughout the Big Apple this week, attention now turns back to football business as Yankee Stadium plays host to the Premier League champions’ next pre-season contest.

Midweek duties saw Manchester City showcase and launch their brand new 2024/25 third shirt as part of a Block Party in collaboration with kit manufacturers Puma, shooting hoops in the centre of New York City, and hosting a meet and greet and signing session with supporters.

Central Park also adapted into the US version of the City Football Academy, with Manchester City taking on a training session in one of the world’s most iconic green spaces, surprising the New York City faithful with their presence.

The New York leg of Manchester City’s pre-season tour in the United States also welcomes back their Croatian contingent to the first-team squad, with Josko Gvardiol and Mateo Kovacic returning to action following the European Championships and their summer holidays.

City’s opening pre-season contest showcased an outstanding individual performance from Oscar Bobb in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, despite ultimately falling to a 3-4 defeat at the hands of Scottish Premier League champions Celtic at the Kenan Memorial Stadium.

AC Milan are the opponents for Manchester City on Saturday night and ahead of the meeting with the Italian giants on matchday two of pre-season, here is everything you need to know for the contest in NYC!

Match Details

Manchester City take on AC Milan at Yankee Stadium, New York City on Saturday 27th July, with kick-off scheduled for approximately 23:00 BST, and 18:00 EDT.

Team News

Manchester City emerged from their first pre-season friendly unscathed when it comes to injuries, in what will no doubt come as a huge relief to Pep Guardiola as he looks to prepare his squad in the best possible way, but keep them fit and healthy for the competitive season.

With that being said, the obvious boost to Manchester City’s team news ahead of the meeting with AC Milan is the return to training of Josko Gvardiol and Mateo Kovacic, although it remains to be seen whether they are ready to play any part in the weekend’s fixture.

Head to Head

Manchester City and AC Milan have only ever met twice in their respective histories in competitive action, facing off in the 1978/79 campaign in the UEFA Cup, playing out a 2-2 draw at San Siro, and a 3-0 win in favour of Manchester City at Maine Road.

The latter result featured goals from Tommy Booth, Brian Kidd, and Asa Hartford in a clash that also saw the likes of Joe Corrigan star in the Manchester City line-up managed and selected by Tony Book.

The last meeting between the two clubs in any setting came 10 years ago, as Manuel Pellegrini’s Manchester City side began a three-match tour of the United States with a 5-1 win over the Italian giants in the International Champions Cup in Pittsburgh.

The Premier League side’s goals were courtesy of Stevan Jovetic, Gael Clichy, Jesus Navas and Kelechi Iheanacho topping off an all-round impressive warm-up showing in the USA.
