Arne Nypan, the father of Manchester City and Norway U-21 midfielder Sverre Nypan, has discussed his son’s upcoming season-long loan away from the Etihad Stadium in a new interview.

Manchester City secured the arrvial of Nypan from Rosenborg for £12.5 million in July, making the 18-year-old midfielder the most expensive export from Norway as City got their hands on one of Europe’s most exciting up-and-coming talents.

City have a star-studded midfield roster heading into the 2025-26 campaign, which witness the departure of Kevin De Bruyne earlier this summer but has since been revitalised by the arrival(s) of Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki from AC Milan and Lyon respectively.

Hugo Viana stepped in as Manchester City’s sporting director this summer and has orchestrated a major squad revamp to bolster Pep Guardiola’s first-team squad to challenge for major trophies in the seasons to come.

However, Guardiola is keen for his squad to be trimmed between now and the closing of the transfer window on September 1, with Vitor Reis already sealing a season-long loan move to CFG-owned side Girona last week.

Loan moves have also been mooted for Claudio Echeverri and Nypan, both of whom are of interest to Girona, who are keen to grow their Manchester City contingent after signing Reis for the 2025-26 campaign.

Jack Grealish passed his Everton medical on Monday as the 29-year-old England international finalises a season-long loan to Merseyside after being deemed surplus to requirements at the Etihad Stadium, having made just seven starts in the recent Premier League campaign.

Manchester City are also nearing an agreement with Nottingham Forest for the permanent sale of James McAtee, with Tottenham also in talks to sign Savinho as they look to replace their departed legend Son Heung-Min.

City begin their 2025-26 Premier League campaign against Wolves this weekend, which could see outgoings and loan moves pick up pace after Guardiola’s latest reminder to the board that he wants further departures between the window closes.

In an interview with VG, Sverre Nypan’s father Arne has discussed the Manchester City teenager’s immediate future as all parties deliberate on where Nypan will be best served to spend the next year of his young career.

“He (Sverre Nypan) travelled over last weekend with a suitcase. Now he is training at the Etihad,” said Arne Nypan, as quoted by Football Norge.

“He (Sverre Nypan) had an internal match on Wednesday and played 30 minutes, so he has had some match training as well. So we are now working on choosing the loan club, which has been part of the plan here from the start.”
