With Real Madrid gunning for a new central midfielder in the summer transfer window, the name of AC Milan and Netherlands star Tijjani Reijnders has emerged as a target.

The Dutchman has been a standout performer in what has been a disappointing season for the Rossoneri, and has managed to catch the eye of several big clubs across Europe.

Real Madrid, for one, are admirers of the midfielder after he made a big impression during their meeting against Milan in the UEFA Champions League, scoring a goal at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Manchester City begin negotiations for Reijnders

However, according to Fabrizio Romano, Premier League bigwigs Manchester City have now initiated direct talks with AC Milan over the potential signing of Tijjani Reijnders.

The negotiations are expected to continue over the next week with a first official bid from Pep Guardiola’s team likely to follow soon.

Manchester City are in a hurry to close the deal as they intend to have Reijnders available for the FIFA Club World Cup in the USA next month.

Furthermore, being aware of the interest from other top clubs, the Cityzens are keen on wrapping up a deal as soon as possible.

This will come as a blow to Real Madrid’s hopes of landing Reijnders, who is well-admired within the club, although his €80 million price tag was seen as a deterrent.

The Merengues also have their sights on other top midfielders like PSG’s Vitinha, Rodri of Manchester City and Liverpool ace Alexis Mac Allister.

Only time will tell who the Spanish capital giants end up signing but a move for Reijnders looks unlikely with Manchester City making their move.
