Manchester City are willing to offer Matheus Nunes as part of a package deal to sign Morgan Gibbs-White from Nottingham Forest in the summer, as per a new report.
Gibbs-White has been identified as a potent addition to Manchester City’s attack and will bolster Pep Guardiola’s frontline as Kevin De Bruyne finalises a free transfer to Napoli after being told he has no future at the Etihad Stadium.
Hugo Viana is taking over as director of football in the coming months and is spearheading Manchester City’s pursuit of Gibbs-White, who is reported to have agreed personal terms with the 2023 treble winners as the two clubs agree on a fee.
City are eyeing four to five additions to their first-team squad after failing to challenge for the Premier League and UEFA Champions League titles this season – whilst losing to Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final.
Gibbs-White is believed to be valued at £70 million by Nottingham Forest, who have qualified for the UEFA Europa Conference League courtesy of a seventh place Premier League finish this season.
The 25-year-old also shares a strong friendship with Manchester City forward Phil Foden, who has admitted to physical and mental struggles through the 2024-25 campaign derailing him from kicking on from his personal-best, 2023-24 PFA Players’ Player of the Season winning campaign.
As per a new report by Sun Sport, Manchester City are ready to offer Matheus Nunes as part of a package deal to sign Gibbs-White from Nottingham Forest, with the Portuguese’s future at the Etihad Stadium also in question ahead of the summer transfer window.
Nunes was signed from Wolves to play in midfield but Guardiola has made it clear in press conferences this season that he doesn’t deem the 26-year-old good enough to operate in the middle of the park.
After an impressive debut season where he combined well with the likes of Foden and Erling Haaland in attack, Nunes has played at right-back for majority of the 2024-25 campaign and has arguably been one of Guardiola’s most improved players since January.
A cult hero amongst the fanbase for his work-ethic and unrelenting desire to run – a theme not common in much of the squad this season – Nunes would do well to earn a stay at the club into the new campaign but it would make sense for the Portugal international to accept a move to Forest if he wants to play in his natural, preferred midfield position.
