Manchester City are keeping tabs on Lamine Yamal’s contract situation at Barcelona ahead of the summer transfer window, as per a new report.
The Premier League champions are expected to make significant changes to the first-team come the end of the season, with Kevin De Bruyne confirming he will be leaving the club in a few months last week.
City dropped down to sixth place in the league table after a toothless showing in a goalless derby match against rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday, with seven games left to play as they bid for a top-four finish.
Pep Guardiola’s side remain in the hunt for an eighth FA Cup title after Nico O’Reilly inspired the Blues off the bench to come from behind and claim a hard-fought 2-1 win over Bournemouth in the quarter-final to set up a semi-final tie against Nottingham Forest.
Several reports in England confirmed on Monday that Manchester City’s incoming sporting director Hugo Viana has officially started working as he prepares to take over from Txiki Begiristain at the end of the summer transfer window.
Viana was in attendance with Manchester City executives at the weekend derby and watched on as the four-in-a-row Premier League champions played out arguably the most boring, uninspiring Manchester derby in nearly a decade.
City introduced a series of fresh arrivals to their squad in January, spending £181.5 million to secure the signings of Abdukodir Khusanov, Vitor Reis, Omar Marmoush and Nico Gonzalez to bolster Guardiola’s depleted, injury-riddled ranks.
As per a new report by Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, as relayed by Sport Witness, Manchester City are monitoring Lamine Yamal’s contract situation at Barcelona with just over 12 months remaining on the star teenager’s current deal at the Nou Camp.
Yamal is widely renowned as the best youngster in world football and after leading Spain to victory at the 2024 European Championship, the 17-year-old is enjoying a stellar season under Hansi Flick for the title-chasing Blaugrana.
Yamal hopes to stay on at Barcelona and is negotiating an improvement on his current wages with the help of super agent Jorge Mendes and despite their long-standing financial restraints, Barcelona have no intention of selling their best player, who has also attracted interest from Liverpool.
