The agents and representatives of Manchester City and Argentina striker Julian Alvarez have been made aware of a clear stance taken by the Premier League champions.

The Argentine international, who is currently away on national team duties at the 2024 Copa America, has been at the centre of transfer speculation over the past few weeks amid a desire to secure more regular game time.

The widespread belief is that Alvarez holds intentions of becoming the mainstay first-choice striker at a top-level European club, with Manchester City’s current forward being Erling Haaland and that being unlikely to change any time soon.

But the most recent season certainly did not see a reduction in opportunities for the 24-year-old, as Alvarez starred alongside Phil Foden for the most part of the campaign in the attacking midfield roles, as City came to terms with a lengthy absence for Erling Haaland.

Nevertheless, interest is growing in Julian Alvarez this summer, and a new report has outlined the stance seemingly taken by the Premier League champions amid watchful eyes from two of European football’s major players.

According to the information of CaughtOffside, both Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona are now ‘prioritising’ the potential signing Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez during the ongoing summer transfer window.

From the viewpoint of Barcelona, it is detailed that Saudi Arabian clubs ‘remain keen’ on Robert Lewandowski, and while the striker is not willing to leave, an ‘astronomical offer’ could change the La Liga club’s mind.

The direct link to Manchester City’s Alvarez is that without such an offer from the Middle-East in the Poland international, it will be ‘difficult’ for the Catalan club to make an offer exceeding €100 million for the Etihad Stadium star.

As for the Parisian club, manager Luis Enrique has ‘approved’ a move for Julian Alvarez, with PSG claimed to have now held talks with the Premier League champions.

Unfortunately for all involved in the French capital, the report states that Manchester City have told Alvarez’s representatives that they have no plans to sell the attacker in the current window and will reject future offers.

Should Alvarez secure himself a move away from the Etihad Stadium this summer, Manchester City would likely re-enter the market themselves to source a suitable replacement for the former River Plate man.

City do however remain in the market for attacking reinforcements at present, with the club on the search for a new star in the wide-right attacking roles, despite the imminent arrival of Savio from ESTAC Troyes.

Officials within the Etihad Stadium moved fast during the last winter market to ensure that their fellow City Football Group side would only sell to the English champions, amid a hugely successful spell with Girona.

Savio is set to link-up with Manchester City for their pre-season tour of the United States later this summer, and the Brazilian international is likely to be assessed by club coaching staff before a decision is made on whether he will remain with Pep Guardiola’s squad for the season.
