Manchester City women have ended their search for a new manager, with Denmark head coach Andree Jeglertz appointed ahead of the new WSL season.

While Andree Jeglertz will take charge of Denmark at this summer’s Euro 2025, once he returns from international duty the 53-year-old will begin a new role as Manchester City manager.

City made the decision to sack Gareth Taylor in March after five years at the club with results continuing to disappoint as they remained well behind the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea in the WSL.

After Taylor was sacked, Nick Cushing was appointed as stand-in manager while the team looked for a new permanent boss.

Jeglertz is vastly experienced in women’s football having coached the Denmark national team since 2023, but it is his career in the Damallsvenskan that earned him his impressive reputation.

While manager of Umeå in Sweden, Jeglertz lifted both the UEFA Super Cup and the Champions League.

What Andree Jeglertz said after his appointment

The new City boss has already spoken to the media about his new position in the WSL while on international duty with Denmark, and it was clear that he is excited to get started with a new journey.

“Manchester City is one of the biggest clubs in the world,” said Jeglertz. “There is so much talent in this group. One of my key things is to continue the job that’s been done and take it to the next level.

“We would like to win, develop players and want the players every day to become better. I will do everything I can to take this to the next level and make sure we can play attractive and winning football.”

City haven’t won the WSL since 2016, but with five second place finishes in the following eight seasons they have been knocking on the door for a very long time.

After finishing fourth last year – their joint-lowest league finish since 2014 – City have already been busy in the transfer market, signing Swiss forward Iman Beney from BSC YB Frauen and Jade Rose from Harvard University.
