Scott Carson has extended his stay at Manchester City until the summer of 2025 as he pens a further one-year contract extension to his existing agreement.

The Englishman has been working with Manchester City and their goalkeeping department since the summer of 2019, initially joining the club on back-to-back loan spells from Football League side Derby County.

Following the expiry of his Pride Park contract, the Premier League champions moved to recruit Carson on a full-time basis, agreeing to bring in the player on a free transfer given his importance to the squad as a group.

Scott Carson’s importance within the first-team set-up has been credited on multiple occasions, with Pep Guardiola often stating that the veteran shot-stopper is one of the most important figures in the dressing room.

And despite not featuring at all during the latest 2023/24 campaign, Manchester City have moved to extend his contract into next season, in what will be his sixth season working under Pep Guardiola.

Speaking to ManCity.com upon signing his new one-year Manchester City contract until the summer of 2025, the 38-year-old explained, “I’m looking forward to another season as part of this incredible squad at City.”

“Every day I work hard and learn something new from Pep (Guardiola), Xabi Mancisidor and the world class group of players. Hopefully I can continue to help our goalkeepers perform at their best as we challenge for even more trophies.”

Offering his reaction to the news, Manchester City’s Director of Football Txiki Begiristain said, “Scott has been important to our successes over recent seasons, supporting his team-mates and training hard as part of our excellent goalkeeping unit.

“We’re very pleased he has agreed to extend his contract. Hopefully he can help the squad and be ready when called upon on the pitch in the 2024/25 season.”

Carson’s extended stay at Manchester City comes as uncertainty continues to loom over the club’s two other mainstay first-team goalkeepers, with both Ederson and Stefan Ortega linked with respective exits from the Etihad Stadium.

The Brazilian is attracting interest from Saudi Arabia, who are looking to sanction ambitious big-money moves for the 30-year-old, while Ortega is looking to secure first-team opportunities on a regular basis, whether that be at City or elsewhere.

Stefan Ortega’s Manchester City contract also expires at the end of the 2024/25 season, and club’s from across Europe are likely to look to capitalise on his intentions and contractual situation.
